Chief Executive Officer of Ninani Group Joel Nettey, says technology has greatly had a significant impact on advertising and businesses should leverage on the digital revolution in advertising to win clients to their advantage.

According to Joel Nettey, digital media has helped to widen the advertising space and this he said has eradicated some barriers which use to hinder the widespread of advertisement.

Speaking at this year’s Social Media Week in Accra, Mr Nettey said, “Barriers are down to zero. Back in the days if you want to do advertising, you needed capital, cameras, and microphones but with a good phone these days, one can be at the comfort of their offices to produce an advert and make it go viral.”

He also observed that ethical standards in advertising have fallen as some adverts are not well scrutinized before publication and believe that the advertising bill when implemented will help sanction individual who fails to go by the advertising standard.

“Previously there used to be a vetting process that ensures a certain kind of advert that meets an agreed standard is the only ad that is permitted to go out but that is not happening now. Technology allows anybody to record anything to put them out and you don’t have a system in place today that enables us to vet before ads go out,” he said.

This year’s Social Media Week Accra seeks to bring together industry players, brand custodians, agencies and businesses to share their stories that will help grow industries.
Social Media Week is a global event which takes place in over two hundred cities in sixteen countries.

The theme for this year’s Social Media Week is ‘Stories with Great Influence, Comes Great Responsibility’.
